Four Minutes Between The Rain And The Bassline

May 23, 2026 7:03 AM – 12:56 PM 10 tracks

Seven oh three. Ben Banjo Field opens something. Four minutes pass before Larry Funk's Body Music arrives—four minutes of rain on the Flagler Street windows, eighty degrees already pressing through the glass. That gap is the session's first breath. Everything after fills in around it.

The tracks cluster tight between 7:18 and 7:35—Captain Morgan, The Other Tribe, Citizens!, Tiger Stripes—three and four minutes apart, stacking like the humidity building outside South Beach. Then Madonna's Hung Up lands and the spacing exhales. Five minutes. Six. The gaps widen as the morning finds its weight. Donna Summer into Distance and Ungaro—a six-minute pocket where the remix dissolves into something warmer. Duke Dumont's Ocean Drive closes the first hour like a period at the end of a sentence nobody needed to read aloud.

By 8:32, Rocoe and Body Heat Gang Band are proving something about basslines in E minor at 124 BPM while Midtown Miami wakes around the studio. Eight minutes earlier, Todd Terje's Strandbar sat alone—the longest silence in the first two hours. Something lived in that gap. A coffee poured. A window cracked wider.

The mid-session carries a different architecture. Nicone at 9:38, then Superfunk at 9:45—seven minutes that contain an entire argument about taste. Caroline Loeb's C'est La Ouate arrives while traffic flows easy on Lincoln Road, and Goldroom answers eleven minutes later with the precision of a city that knows its tempo.

By noon the rain returns. Eighty-eight degrees on Collins Avenue. The tracks compress again—Madison Avenue, Barbara Tucker, Armand Van Helden—three minutes apart, two minutes, the gaps collapsing like the session knows it's ending. Chic's Pal Joey mix at 12:52. Riva Starr refracting light at 12:56. Then Breaching Containment—the title itself a confession. Six hours held together by the weight between the timestamps, and what Calle Ocho sounded like in the spaces where nothing played.
