Ninety-Two Degrees, Light Rain, and Nobody Left the Table

29 de July de 2026 12:05 PM – 12:57 PM 10 tracks

I was sitting at a two-top on the second floor of a place in the Design District when Ace Of Base came through the speakers and the whole room shifted forward by about half an inch. Not physically — just the posture. The tilt of attention. Twelve-twelve in the midday and nobody was checking their phone anymore. The hook landed clean, no negotiation, and suddenly the lunch I'd barely started felt like an event.

The rain started right around Sash — Adelante — one of those July showers that turns the asphalt into a mirror for five minutes and then disappears. Through the window I could see the sidewalk steam. Crystal Waters pushed the temperature higher inside. Michael Jackson's Bad hit at twelve twenty-eight and something about that production — the snap, the confidence, the way it filled the room without crowding it — made the whole block feel like it was running on schedule. Lincoln Road smooth. Brickell clean. Everything where it should be.

The second half opened with Haddaway and I realized I'd been there for over thirty minutes without moving. Cetu Javu pulled the room into something darker, more European, and then Erasure's Blue Savannah spread it wide open again. DJ Tonka at twelve forty-four — ninety-two degrees outside, humid enough to taste — and that Straight Disco Edit rode the weather like it was written for exactly this window. The lunch crowd was full. Cars pushing south on the Palmetto. Everyone in motion except me.

Pet Shop Boys closed it. It's Alright. One oh one in the afternoon. DJ Paul said that was the last one, and it was enough. The synth line hung in the air after the track ended, like it refused to believe the session was over. I paid the check. The rain had already stopped. The sidewalk was dry again. But something about that hour stayed wet — saturated — like the music had soaked into the walls and wouldn't evaporate until tomorrow's session brought it back.
