Biscayne Held Still Until the First Engine Turned

At half past six, the bay doesn't move. Not really. The water off Brickell Key sits flat like poured resin, catching whatever grey-blue the sky is offering before sunrise finishes its work. That's where Somelee's Crystal Clear lives — in that surface tension, that held breath between dark and day. The track doesn't push. It lets the space around it do the talking, and at this hour, Miami's skyline is just glass and silence, no one behind the windows yet.

Sunset Drift floated in without announcement, Robberta's voice dissolving into the same frequency as a distant outboard motor idling somewhere near the marina. Then Café Del Mar's The Floating Sun did exactly what the title promised — hung there, weightless, over the Rickenbacker Causeway where a single jogger hadn't yet appeared. The Chemical Brothers pulled something unexpected: restraint. All Rights Reversed stripped itself bare, mechanical but unhurried, the kind of thing that sounds right bouncing off the concrete underside of a bridge when no traffic passes above.

Pretz's Camel was the sparsest thing in the set — skeletal percussion, patient as the herons standing one-legged along the seawall at Alice Wainwright Park. Downtown still quiet enough to hear it, as if the track existed in the gap between the last AC unit cycling off and the first elevator chime of the workday. Alley SA's Cycles built slowly, inevitably, the way light fills a parking garage floor by floor.

By the time Tosca closed with Rondo Acapricio — that 2025 remaster, warm and round at the edges — the first delivery trucks were already rumbling down Brickell Avenue. The bay had started to ripple. Seven-oh-three, and whoever stayed through all of it earned that transition: from held water to moving city. WXLI Pulse took it from there.
